About The Daily Ittefaq
The Daily Ittefaq is the oldest continuously published Bengali daily in Bangladesh. Founded in 1953 by Tofazzal Hossain — universally known as Manik Mia — it became the defining nationalist paper of the pre-independence period, and Manik Mia's column "Rajnaitik Mancha" is still cited in accounts of the language and autonomy movements.
The paper was banned and its press confiscated more than once under Pakistani rule. In the decades since independence it has settled into a conventional centrist broadsheet with a large older readership, particularly outside Dhaka, and it retains one of the better-organised archives of any Bangladeshi title.
