About The Daily Star
The Daily Star is the largest English-language newspaper in Bangladesh and the one most often quoted abroad. It launched in January 1991, weeks after the fall of the Ershad government, and has been edited and published throughout by Mahfuz Anam.
Its influence rests less on circulation — which is modest by Bengali-daily standards — than on who reads it: diplomats, development agencies, the business community and foreign correspondents. The editorial and op-ed pages carry weight in policy debate, and the paper's Star Weekend and business supplements have long been reference points for sector reporting.
A Bengali-language edition, Bangla Daily Star, publishes online with its own desk.
